Sabi is located of at the north of current downtown Buyeo at the southern foot of Busosan Mountain. Sabi became the new capital of Baekje Dynasty (18 BC – 663 AD) in the 16th year of King Seong 538 A.D. Castle walls of eight kilometers in length were built around the city.
Baekje was located in the southwestern part of the Korean Peninsula during the period between 18 B.C and 660 A.D. Baekje established a powerful kingdom around Han River region.
This was a golden age for the city in every field: refined architecture; craft; art; religion; international exchange with China, Japan, India, and other southeast Asia ancient countries; and powerful royal dominion.
It was believed that Sabi was laid out according to a plan based on that of Chang’an, capital of China during its Tang Dynasty.
In 660, Baekje’s Sabi Castle fell and the collapse of the kingdom was imminent. Sabi Castle was destroyed after the invasion, and acts of arson and plunder were commonplace.
